Our Story

We met in 2013 on OKCupid.com when we were both living in Madison, Wisconsin. We chatted online for a couple of weeks before we realized that we lived a few blocks from each other, at which point we met for a beer and the rest is history. A year later Carson moved in with Jamie, into the little house Jamie was renting from his uncle.

Two years later Jamie (finally) finished his training and we had to decide where to move next. We looked around the country for the best combination of good jobs, outdoor stuff to do, and nearby family. Duluth fit the bill. We moved here in 2016, but first we took three months off to hike 500 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail.

We both slept in that tiny tent.

In the spring of 2018 we took a trip to the Everglades, in Florida. In a remote campground surrounded by alligators, empty except for a large hairy shirtless man cruising around on a bicycle, Carson got down on one knee and proposed to Jamie.

Not pictured: hairy shirtless man.

A little more than a year later we got married on the beach in Duluth, surrounded by friends and family. Our friend Carly officiated.

We went on two different honeymoons! First with friends on a houseboat in Voyageurs National Park, and then on a magical trip to the Galapagos Islands.

Not long after that we had our very first meeting with the folks at Children’s Home/Lutheran Social Services and began the adoption process!
